The history of Trade and Pleasure
The story of Landgoed Keukenhof begins 4 centuries ago. The first owner of the Manor House (Kasteel) was Adriaan Maartenszn. Block (1581 - 1661) skipper of Dutch East India Company (VOC). Since than, Landgoed Keukenhof is a place of entrepreneurship and networking.

The Estate is situated in the Keukenduin an area historically used for hunting purposes for the benefit of Slot Teylingen, the ruins of which are situated in Sassenheim. This is the origin of the name Keukenhof meaning 'Kitchen Garden'.

In the course of the last centuries the Estate expanded to 230 ha. In 1809 ownership passed to the Zeeuwse family Steengracht and through inheritance the Estate passed to the female side of the family. During almost 4 centuries of wealth and accumulation, the Manor House and its Estate flourished. With its traditions and style full elements it is a unique testament to Holland Golden Age. The Manor House stands today as it has for centuries. It is as if one enters at the invitation of the Count. Offering the use of its domain and the treasures contained within.
